    • If your Visual Studio Online account is connected to an Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), only members of that directory can sign in. If you're the directory administrator, you can add new members, including Microsoft accounts and members from other Azure ADs, if you're also a member or have read access. There's also other ways you might manage users outside your organization.

Q & A

Q:Why can’t I add more team members to my Visual Studio Online account?

A:Each new member automatically gets the next available license. So, after all 5 free licenses are assigned, you either need to buy more licenses for your account or add eligible MSDN subscribers. To manually assign licenses while you add users, go to the Users page.

Q:Why can't some users sign in?

A:This might happen because:

  • Check that they have an active and valid license assigned to them on the Users page.

  • If your Visual Studio Online account was created with a Microsoft account, only users with Microsoft accounts can sign in. Check that users are added with their Microsoft accounts.

  • If your Visual Studio Online account is connected to your organization's Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), only members of that directory can sign in.

If you're the directory administrator, you can add new members, including Microsoft accounts and members from other Azure ADs, if you're a member too or have read access. There's also other ways you might manage users outside your organization.

Q:How do I remove users from my Visual Studio Online account?

A:Follow these steps to delete users across all team projects in your account. You'll have to manually remove any Visual Studio Online licenses that you bought but don't need anymore. If you don't, you'll continue getting charged.
